Ramin Emami - Sensei

Ramin Emami is a dedicated lifetime practitioner and master instructor of Shotokan Karate, one of the most respected traditional martial arts styles worldwide.

With over 30 years of teaching experience, he holds a 5th Dan black belt from the Japan Shotokan Karate Association (JSKA), earned in 2010, a 4th Dan from the Karatenomich World Federation (KWF) in 1995, and a 3rd Dan from the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in 2008.

Fluent in Persian and English, Ramin's journey in martial arts began with a deep passion for self-improvement, leading him to train extensively in Japan, the birthplace of Karate.

Born with a spirit of exploration, Ramin immersed himself in rigorous training at renowned dojos in Japan, where the emphasis was not merely on physical techniques but on conquering one's inner weaknesses through humility, discipline, and character building.

This contrasted sharply with his observations of North American martial arts culture, which often prioritizes competition, trophies, and ego over personal growth. His time in Japan solidified his belief that true Karate is a lifelong path of self-mastery, extending far beyond the ring or mat.

Upon returning to Canada, Ramin founded The Powerhouse Martial Arts Academy in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he serves as CEO and head coach.

Initially focusing on adult programs for 17 years, he shifted his emphasis to kids and youth, recognizing their immense potential to absorb and apply Karate's life lessons.

Today, his academy specializes in confidence-building programs that integrate classic Shotokan Karate techniques with everyday self-defense skills, fitness kickboxing, and character development for students starting as young as 4 years old.

Ramin's approach underscores that Karate is about defense first, fostering resilience, focus, and real-world applicability rather than just competitive fighting.
